For Immediate Release:
An AmeriCorps NCCC team is Helping the City of Mattoon
Mattoon, Ill. – AmeriCorps members serving in the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) program are supporting the City of Mattoon from September 18-November 6. The team is helping create trail systems covering five miles on 110 acres of city-owned land.
The AmeriCorps team from the North Central Region campus in Vinton, Iowa is contributing to the goals of the project by clearing trail corridors, developing trails, installing amenities, and establishing pollinator plots.
The project is expected to benefit all residents and visitors in East Central Illinois, by increasing access to nature, promoting conservation awareness, improving mental well-being, and expanding publicly accessible land.
The City of Mattoon’s mission is ‘working together to build the future.’ We have partnered with various conservation-focused organizations, to enhance access to public lands and promote ecological conservation awareness. Through the Lake Paradise Pathway Revitalization Project, we aim to enhance the quality of life for our residents by improving access to public lands.
