RILEY CREEK CSO CONVEYANCE SEWER – PHASE 1
The City of Mattoon is constructing new sanitary sewers along 10th & 11th Streets north of Piatt Avenue, and new combined sewers to the Riley Creek Satellite Treatment Facility at 2521 N.6th Street. The sewer work is required by the City’s Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Long-Term Control Plan and our National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit requirements. Funding for this project is provided by a low interest loan from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s Water Pollution Control Loan Program (WPCLP). The WPCLP is funded by both State and Federal sources. The $6,779,785.48 loan has an interest rate of 1.01% and will be repaid over 20 years. In addition, $2,033,935.64 of the loan amount will be forgiven by the State of Illinois, pursuant to their principal forgiveness requirements. Once complete, this project will improve water quality for area residents and businesses in Mattoon, Illinois. The State Revolving Fund (SRF) programs operate in each state to provide communities with the resources necessary to build, maintain, and improve the infrastructure that protects one of our most valuable resources: water.
