City of Mattoon to Host Electronics Recycling Event on October 17

October 8, 2026

MATTOON, Illinois — The City of Mattoon is partnering with Tech Remove, LLC to host a Community Electronics Recycling Event on Saturday, October 17, from 8:00 a.m. to noon at Williams Elementary School, 1709 South 9th Street. The drive-through event is open to City of Mattoon residents.

Residents are encouraged to bring unwanted electronics, including desktop and laptop computers, tablets, cell phones, computer accessories, printers, gaming systems, audio equipment, small household electronics, microwaves, and power tools. If it has a cord, it will be accepted. Most qualifying electronics will be accepted at no charge.

Fees apply to certain televisions and CRT monitors. A CRT (cathode ray tube) monitor is a type of display that uses a vacuum tube containing electron guns to project images onto a phosphorescent screen.

  • CRT computer monitors — $5
  • LCD, LED and plasma televisions — $20
  • CRT televisions 26″ or smaller — $30
  • CRT televisions 27″ or larger — $50
  • Projection televisions — $50

Flat-screen computer monitors are accepted at no charge.

The event cannot accept alkaline batteries, smoke detectors, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, CDs/DVDs, PCB ballasts, software, toner cartridges, thermometers, or hazardous materials.

Residents should remain in their vehicles and follow event personnel through the designated collection area.
