EMERGENCY ALERT UPDATE: BUILDING COLLAPSE & ROAD CLOSURES

The City of Mattoon is continuing to assess the situation and clean up the area around the building collapse at the intersection of 19th St. and Western.

At this time, 19th St. (US-45) from Charleston Ave. to Richmond Ave. and Broadway Ave. from 19th to 21st are now open.

Road Closures remaining in effect:

Western Ave. from 19th to 20th St.

Prairie Ave. from 19th to 20th St.

Please continue to avoid the area and allow emergency personnel and crews to work. The City will continue to provide additional information as it becomes available

EMERGENCY ALERT: BUILDING COLLAPSE & ROAD CLOSURES

The City of Mattoon is responding to a building collapse at the intersection of 19th and Western Ave. Emergency personnel are on scene, and several roads in the surrounding area are closed while crews assess the situation and ensure the area is safe.

ROAD CLOSURES:

19th St. from Charleston Ave. to Richmond Ave.

Broadway Ave from 19th St. to 21st St.

Western Ave. from 19th St. to 21st St.

Prairie Ave from 19th St. to 20th St.

Please avoid the area and do not attempt to drive around barricades. Keeping the area clear is critical to allowing emergency personnel and equipment to safely access the scene. There is no need for residents to come to the area. Please use alternate routes and allow emergency crews room to work.

The City will provide additional information, including updates to road closures, as it becomes available.
