Fall Parades Scheduled

Each November, the City of Mattoon looks forward to the annual Veteran's Day and Christmas Parades. The Veteran's Day Parade is held each year on November 11, and the Christmas Parade is typically held on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

Expo at Cross County Mall:
It is time again for the Annual Mattoon Chamber of Commerce Expo this Thursday October 4th at the Cross County Mall.

"Stop the Bullying!":
October 5th Eastern Illinois University is hosting the "Stop the Bullying" conference, from 8:30-4pm in the Martin Luther King Union in Charleston.

Swap that!:
October 6th is the Annual Mid America Motorworks Fall Swapfest and Bonfire Music Festival, from 8am-2pm at the corporate campus of Mid America Motorworks in Effingham on 17082 North US Highway 45.

Last chance tri-athalon:
Looking for one last Tri? this is your chance: October 7th is the Mattoon YMCA Last Chance Tri. Race start time is 1pm with race day registration and packet pick up from 11am-12:30pm.

Cute as a pumpkin:
2012 marks the 24th year of The Great Pumpkin patch inviting guests from near and far to celebrate the beauty of harvest.

EIU softball club plays in Mattoon:
Friday, October 5th - Sun, October 7, the Eastern Illinois University Club Softball will take the field at the Mattoon Roundhouse Complex located at 331North 6th St.

Mattoon Library Book Sale:
Make your preparations for curling up with a good book with a trip to the Mattoon Library Book Sale this weekend October 5-6th. The Sale is open Friday 3-7pm and Saturday 8:30-2pm with a special deal of $5 to 'fill your bag" starting at 12:10 on Saturday.

EIU weekend:
Saturday the 29th from noon -1:30 tailgate in Billy's Backyard. EIU vs. Austin Peay football game at 1:30. $17 for adults, free for EIU students with ID, $15 for EIU faculty and staff, $7 for high school students, $5 for ages 4-14. O'Brien Stadium.

Hear from Temple Grandin:
Temple Grandin's life has been a fascinating, unique journey, and Dr. Grandin will be on campus Thursday, Sept. 27, at the Doudna Fine Arts Center for a firsthand account of her amazing story.

Night of Hope:
This Friday night September 28th is the annual "Night of Hope" to raise funds and awareness of HOPE Domestic Violence Prevention in East Central Illinois. The event takes place at Jackson Ave. Coffee on 708 Jackson Ave. in Charleston from 6-9pm.

Yea, it Pumpkin Season:
2012 marks the 24th year of The Great Pumpkin patch inviting guests from near and far to celebrate the beauty of harvest. Preparations are made year-round for "pumpkin season" of September 15 through October 31.
