The City of Mattoon has obtained a new aggregated electricity rate contract for the community. The Mayor issued today this letter providing direction to restaurant and bar owners who wish to reopen their establishments. Direct questions regarding the contents of this letter to the Code Enforcement office at 217-234-7367 or the City Clerk's office at 217-235-5654.
Due to the spread of Coronavirus, the City of Mattoon will no longer accept payments directly from its customers at the Finance Office at City Hall. The options for payment are online, by phone (844-701-1148, which is printed on all bills), by mail, or by using the drop box on the north side of City Hall. Customers are encouraged to set up automatic payments by bank draft. Those wishing to set up Water and Sewer service should contact the Finance Department by phone at 217-235-5483.

The City of Mattoon has installed new security cameras at the Yard Waste Facility. The City accepts leaves, limbs, grass clippings, plants, shrubs and most other forms of yard and garden waste.
The proposed budget for fiscal year 2020, beginning May 1, 2019, is now available for public review on the website for the City of Mattoon.
At its meeting on February 5, the City Council approved a Bicycle Plan developed by a committee from the Mattoon in Motion initiative, with assistance from Ride Illinois and funding by The Lumpkin Family Foundation.
Mattoon in Motion has been selected as a winner in the Google.org Impact Challenge! Our project, The Cross County Innovation Center, has received a $75,000 grant from the Google.org Impact Challenge. The statewide competition selected ten Illinois nonprofits with bold, new ideas to create economic opportunities in their communities. Now the public has the chance to select the best of the ten projects to receive the People’s Choice Award and an additional $250,000 in funding. Mattoon in Motion was created in the fall of 2017 when a cross-section of more than 80 passionate community members came together and participated in a series of planning sessions initiated by the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce, the Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation and the MAPPING community planning program offered by the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs at Western Illinois University, and the City of Mattoon.
