The City of Mattoon and Howell Paving will be starting work on Dewitt Avenue from 14th Street to Logan Street on Monday, May 16. The project includes milling, patching, resurfacing, and new ADA sidewalk ramps. Dewitt Avenue will be closed to traffic during construction. The intersections at 14th Street, 12th Street, 6th Street, and Logan Street will remain open to north-south traffic thru-out the work. Limiting Access to City Buildings

With the rise in numbers of new Coronavirus cases and the Governor’s indoor mask mandate, the City of Mattoon will be limiting access to its public buildings. In an effort to reduce the potential risk of spreading the Coronavirus to our staff and citizens the City of Mattoon has decided to limit the access to City Hall, Police Department, Fire Departments, Tourism Office and the Public Works Building.  We are asking the public to do as much business as they can by email, city website or telephone until further notice. Due to the Covid-19 "Coronavirus" pandemic, regular and special meetings of the City Council will continue to be held in a "virtual" meeting room.  This will allow for safe participation by elected officials, departmental managers, and any citizen interested in attending. Annual Fire Hydrant Flow Testing

The Mattoon Fire Department will be conducting annual flow testing, maintenance, and painting of fire hydrants throughout the City of Mattoon beginning July 26, 2021, and will continue until completed. Pending weather, this process should take 4-6 weeks to complete. The hydrants will be flowed between the hours of 8am and 3pm This testing is done to check flow rates to help provide better protection and response to the citizens and visitors of Mattoon. Utility Payments Update

Due to the spread of Coronavirus, the City of Mattoon will no longer accept payments directly from its customers at the Finance Office at City Hall.  The options for payment are online, by phone (844-701-1148, which is printed on all bills), by mail, or by using the drop box on the north side of City Hall.  Customers are encouraged to set up automatic payments by bank draft.  Those wishing to set up Water and Sewer service should contact the Finance Department by phone at 217-235-5483.

Pandemic Update

Mattoon, Illinois, March 14 – Mayor Tim Gover and City Administrator Kyle Gill would like the citizens of Mattoon to know the City of Mattoon is working to prepare for any impact the Coronavirus may have on our community.
