The iWorq reporting system is now live. Please click here to report a problem.

The City of Mattoon Public Works Department will be instituting a new method of reporting issues and requesting information.   We will soon have an online internet-based reporting system that you can use to report issues and request information that will give real-time updates of the status of your inquiry.   It will go into full effect on March 14, 2025.  The really nice part of this new online system is that it will keep you informed of the status of your inquiry and will make sure we get it handled in a timely manner.

This online internet-based system request page will look like this.

You will click the icon you wish to use on the left side of the page and it will take to you to the next screen to enter your request.

The actual request screen will look like the screenshot below.  You will be able to manuever the location indicator on the map to actually show the location of your request and it will show that location in your request automatically for you, or you can simply type in the location yourself and the map will react appropriately.

Once you submit the request you will get a notification with a Request # on it.  Be sure to keep this number so you can search for it later if you like.

Your request will then go to our Public Works Department to be assigned to a crew.  If you use the online system, you will get email notifications of the status of your request once the work has begun, as it progresses, and when it is completed.

To give you a better idea of the things our Public Works Department handles, we handle a variety of issues within four basic areas, all our city streets, water issues, sewer issues, and engineering for all three of these.  If you have a question, or want to report an issue, the following are some of the main areas that our Public Works Department handles:

  • Street Section
    • Our Street Section handles pothole patching, water main breaks, sewer repairs, tree removal and trimming, mowing, drainage, signs, brush pickup, crack sealing, etc.
  • Water Section
    • Our Water Section handles the Water Treatment Plant, treatment of water, water distribution system, water towers, Lake Paradise, Lake Mattoon, etc.
  • Sewer Section
    • Our Wastewater Section handles the Wastewater Treatment Plant, wastewater treatment, wastewater removal system, wastewater lift stations, etc.
  • Engineering Section
    • Our Engineering Section handles the planning and design for our streets, water, and wastewater improvements. We also cover our construction projects to be sure they are properly constructed to the specifications for each project.  If you would like to participate in the City’s Concrete Cost Share Program you come to us.  Finally, we cover some of our city owned buildings in terms on maintenance and repairs, for instance the Burgess Auditorium, Railroad Depot, and City Hall buildings.
