IDOT Work on IL 16 (Charleston Ave)

Beginning June 16, 2025 IDOT is scheduled to begin work on IL 16 (Charleston Ave from just west of Swords Drive to Lake Land Boulevard) on June 16th. Howell Paving is the prime contractor and along with several subcontractors they will be setting up traffic control, removing and replacing concrete curb and gutter, removing sidewalk, placing underground cable for new signals and lighting at various locations within the project limits. You can expect to multiple crews at various locations and can expect to experience lane closures throughout the rest of the construction season.

Annual Fire Hydrant Flow Testing

The Mattoon Fire Department will be conducting annual flow testing, maintenance, and painting of fire hydrants throughout the City of Mattoon beginning July 26, 2021, and will continue until completed. Pending weather, this process should take 4-6 weeks to complete.
